Then weblog about the same issues sometime down the road, weeks or maybe months later. Finding out how much the outside world has affected, and changed your own thoughts and opinions would give you or the reader an interesting concept to think about. How much of our thoughts are really our own, and how much we can shape the world around us.

When it comes to comparing health care in the United States to our neighbor to the north, Canada, Canada wins hands down. Citizens of Canada have a health care system that has better equality in care, a system in which citizens seeking care don’t get stuck with any hidden extra expenses, unlike US Citizens. They also visit their physician more regularly because it’s free, thus fewer people end up with more serious conditions, and the general population ends up healthier, happier, and more satisfied with their health care system compared to citizens of the US.

There are some people out there with opposing opinions, but if they would take the time to analyze the facts, they might realize how much better Canada’s system really works compared to The United States. But not a lot of people seem to know about the Canadian system, so it would seem easy for someone to make blind accusations when they just aren’t sure what the facts are. Also some American citizens might just have their priorities on something other than the collective good of the people. If you are an American citizen with excellent health care and are fairly wealthy, you might be more concerned with your taxes going up than you are with health care, and might just die at the thought of your tax money going to a cause greater than themselves, like universal health care. They may make arguments like “That’s Un-American” or that “The governments controlling everything and taking away my freedom” when generally most of the time they are either ignorant or just plain greedy.

Since birth we’ve been made to believe that we live in the greatest country on earth, and in a lot of respects that’s true, but in the long list of reasons why The United States is so great, US health care has been taking the back seat. We’ve neglected to value our health for many years and now were paying the price… quite literally. Over the last few decades the cost of US health care has become uncontrollable while Canada’s system has only improved. Health care has not faired so well in our capitalist economy, where the main objective has been to obtain wealth because in the end, the citizens end up getting the short end of the stick. We have failed to keep prices down and our citizens on an even playing field, unlike Canada.

Like public education here in the United States, everyone in Canada is entitled to free health care, it’s a constitutional right. Since when is getting treatment for an illness a privilege? But that’s how we are treating it here in the US.

I think our founding fathers left something out when writing the constitution, and bill of right… the right to free health care for all. Why should someone that has poor, or no health care coverage, be punished with the financial burden for the treatment of a disease, like lets say, Leukemia? Isn’t the disease itself punishment enough? I guess not if you’re a citizen of the US. So one of the things you may have to look forward to after fighting tooth and nail for your life would be to live in debt for the rest of it. What kind of incentive to live is that? Where’s our sense of morals? We’re human too aren’t we?

Unlike US Citizens, Canadian Citizens are…

Not going Bankrupt because of outrageous medical bills…

Not having inequality in health care coverage…

Not getting turned away at doctors offices because of no, or poor insurance…

Not fighting with insurance companies because they, or one of their family members needs an operation, and the insurance provider refuses to cover it…

…but their … Rreeeaaaallly Happy their Health Care System isn’t like ours.

So which system is better? I’ll let you decide.

My attitude and views on writing have changed tremendously over the last quarter from doing the Analytical research project, to the digital remix, to the Opinion article. We went from zero to ninety before I had a chance to blink and I think that pressure forced me to evolve better as a writer and help shape my views. I now know that before I took this class I had no clue about the different styles of writing, or how to shape someone else’s view on a certain subject through my own. I now realize that how we write really is significant on how we affect someone else’s view and how serious we are taken. So I now appreciate the value of writing a lot more than when I started, and will probably freak out a lot less next time I am asked to do a long writing assignment, so my overall opinions and attitude is a lot more positive.

Writing for an academic audience and writing for a popular audience was a very different task to say the least. An academic audience is normally reading for informational purpose, were as a popular audience is reading for an opinion or someones view on something, or maybe just for their own entertainment. When writing for an academic audience in the Research Paper I had to make sure information was from reliable and accurate sources, then cite them, then perfectly critique and put it all together just right… OMG! The Op-ed, and weblog assignments for a popular audience seemed much easier and had a more relaxing vibe in writing them. Writing for a popular audience is more conversational and in expressing your thoughts and views, and less robotic, how you would normally express yourself to someone in a normal conversation.

I read a recent Op-ed entitled “Worlds Best Medical Care?” about health care in the United States, and how it lags behind many other countries, and why a lot of Americans still think of it as “The Best”. He explains why we as Americans shouldn’t let our egos get into the way of progress in thinking that we already have the best care and don’t need to change anything. The writer of this article makes his position clear from the beginning, but doesn’t totally alienate the reader right away. He gives a good reasons why someone might think other wise, then smoothly moves into his own opinion by making his argument more explicit and backs it with facts. I thought this article was interesting in how it paralleled my own Op-ed. This article was very persuasive, I think the movement into his opinion had good structure and ended very conclusively.

When it comes to comparing health care in the United States to our neighbor to the north, Canada, Canada wins hands down. Citizens of Canada have a health care system that has better equality in care, a system in which citizens seeking care don’t get stuck with any hidden, extra expenses, unlike US Citizens. They also visit their physician more regularly because it’s free, thus fewer people end up with more serious conditions, and the general population ends up healthier, happier, and more satisfied with their health care system compared to citizens of the US.

There are some people out there with apposing opinions, who usually either have no clue how Canada’s health care system really works, and blindly makes accusations, or are Americans who have excellent health care insurance themselves who seem totally oblivious to the rest of the population, and would just die at the thought of their tax money going to a cause greater than themselves, like universal health care. They may make arguments like “That’s Un-American” or that “The governments controlling everything and taking away my freedom” when generally most of the time they are either ignorant or just plain greedy.

Since birth we’ve been made to believe that we live in the greatest country on earth, and in a lot of aspects, that’s true, but in the long list of reasons why The United States is so great, US health care has been taking the back seat. We’ve neglected to value its importance for many years and now were paying the price… quite literally. Over the last few decades the cost of US health care has become uncontrollable while Canada’s system has only improved. Health care has not faired so well in our capitalist economy, where the main objective has been to obtain wealth, because in the end, the citizens end up getting the short end of the stick. We have failed to keep prices down, and our citizens on an even playing, unlike Canada.

Like public education here in the United States, everyone in Canada is entitled to free health care, it’s a CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT! Since when is getting treatment for an illness a privilege? But that’s how we are treating it here in the US.

So why should someone that has poor, or no health care coverage, be punished with the financial burden for the treatment of a disease, like, lets say, Leukemia? Isn’t the disease itself punishment enough? I guess not if you’re a citizen of the US. So one of the things you may have to look forward to after fighting tooth and nail for your life, would be, to live in debt for the rest of it. What kind of incentive to live is that? Where’s our sense of morals? We’re human aren’t we? I think our founding fathers left something out when writing the constitution, and bill of right… the right to free health care for all.

I’ll let you decide…
